About

shelleyMy name is Shelley. This blog is about how I cook, how I eat, how I exercise, how I have fun, and my general approach to health and wellness. I am inspired by the research and writing of Mark Sisson, author of The Primal Blueprint and website Mark’s Daily Apple. He believes that the key to optimal health lies in modeling parts of our lives after the practices of our ancient, primal ancestors.

On a more personal level, I am a wife, a parent of 5-year-old identical twins, and a nursing student. Before embarking on my current path, I earned a bachelor’s degree in linguistics and a master’s degree in international business. I studied Mandarin Chinese for 6 years and lived in Shanghai, PRC as an English teacher before working at a major university writing and marketing English language competency exams. My lifelong interest in other languages and cultures undoubtedly played a role in my decision to research alternative viewpoints relating to health and nutrition. After innumerable hours reading about and experimenting with a variety of diets and nutritional approaches, I’ve come to believe that emulating the nutritional profile of our hunter-gatherer ancestors is an optimal way to lose fat and improve overall health. In addition to all that, I also love to lift weights and, of course, I love to cook and eat really good food!
